Jerry Palleschi’s Class 11AAA, 11AA Football Poll October 5

It was a weekend of many cross conference games between 11AAA and 11AA, but not much movement in the poll.

For Class 11AAA, the top five teams managed to all win except for Sioux Falls Lincoln. Last week I had Lincoln ranked fifth, much to the opposite of others, and they will remain there this week following a tough loss on the road. Roosevelt, Washington, O'Gorman, and Brandon Valley all picked up lopsided wins. There are no changes in my poll in the top five for Class 11AAA.

Class 11AAA:
1) Sioux Falls Roosevelt (6-0). Last week #1. Win vs. Brookings 40-7.
2) Sioux Falls Washington (5-1). Last week #2. Win vs. Pierre 49-7.
3) Sioux Falls O'Gorman (4-2). Last week #3.  Win vs. Yankton 35-0
4) Brandon Valley (4-2). Last week #4. Win vs. Rapid City Central 50-21.
5) Sioux Falls Lincoln (3-3). Last week #5. Loss vs. Mitchell 42-35

Class 11AA is in an interesting point of the season. Pierre, even with a lopsided loss to Washington, is still the top team in Class 11AA. Brookings had to play the best team in the state in Roosevelt on Friday night. Yankton has scored no points in the last two weeks, and Mitchell has quietly found a way to a 4-2 record. Harrisburg also scored a win against a Class 11AAA team beating Aberdeen Central on Friday.

Outside of Pierre, teams 2-5 could almost be ranked in any order. There is a weird symmetry with the teams in terms of wins and losses. Most of the losses the teams have encountered have been against the top 11AAA quality teams, or close losses against each other. Injuries have piled on teams such as Yankton, which at this point pushes them down the poll even though they have wins against Brookings and Mitchell. Harrisburg continues to find itself right in the mix after a win against Aberdeen Central. My rankings for 11AA haven't changed much, but we'll get more clarity after this upcoming weekend.
