Jerry Palm, of CBS Sports, joined Jeff Thurn on Wednesday’s edition of Overtime.

Palm (@jppalmCBS) is a Bracketology and BCS expert for CBS Sports.

Is the new college football playoff system better than the BCS?

"Well I think that remains to be seen. You know, the juries still out on this group. They've had two polls and haven't had a final poll, which is the only one that matters. All of these others are just window dressings. So, until we get to the end of this year and maybe the end of next year, that before we can really establish any kind of these guys."

Mississippi State, Florida State, Auburn and Oregon are in the top four currently. Are these the four best teams right now?

"Yes, I think so. I think the best team is Alabama. They just haven't shown it yet. I think that's the most talented team. I think in the end with this thing, that Alabama, if they can win at LSU this week, then they will have nothing but home games left. Very difficult opponents coming to home. Nothing but home games left. Which means the SEC title is going through Tuscaloosa. I think by the time we get to the end of this thing, Alabama stands a real good chance to be the No. 1 team. But for right now, I don't think how you could argue with those top four teams, based on what they have done to this point."
