Joe Mauer is Gold Glove Finalist

Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer is one of three finalists for a Gold Glove at the catcher position. Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals and Matt Wieters of the Baltimore Orioles are the other two finalists.

Mauer is the only Twins player nominated for a Gold Glove. The veteran catcher has won the award three times (2008, 2009, and 2010).

The Gold Glove is voted on by managers and coaches, along with Rawlings and the Society for American Baseball Research. Experts in baseball analytics and defensive measurement created the SABR defensive index (SDI). SDI measures metrics from batted balls, location-based data, and collected data from play-by-play accounts.
