SIOUX FALLS - A former juvenile detention center employee in Sioux Falls has been sentenced to about half a year in jail for having sex with a female inmate.

The Argus Leader reports 25-year-old Lorenzo Brown Jr. can clear his record if he successfully completes four years of probation.

Prosecutor Bill Golden argued against that, saying Brown had taken advantage of the girl and given the public a reason to question the safety of the Minnehaha Juvenile Detention Center.

A psychiatric evaluation determined Brown became too personally involved with the girl after she talked about suicide and that he had a low risk for sexual violence. Judge Kathleen Caldwell said she didn't consider Brown a pedophile.

Brown was a star quarterback who led the University of Sioux Falls to two NAIA championships.
