A dream and a mission collide as KDLT News anchor and former collegiate golfer Kelsie Passolt will tee it up at the Great Life Challenge this weekend.

As former captain of the Northern Illinois Women’s Golf team, Passolt has played in big events before. This will be her first professional event which came about through an exemption. One of the sponsors of the Symetra tour event considered her overall goal of raising money for breast cancer.

“Everyone I’ve met through the LPGA have been really excited for me and very supported for the cause. I’m trying to raise $2,500 by October 20 when the Pink Powerhouse Pull event for the American Cancer Society.”

Prior to her entrance in the tournament, Passolt has been giving private lessons to people of all skill levels with all the proceeds being donated to the cause. She is currently 20 percent on the way toward reaching that standard.

On a personal note, Passolt knows about tournament experience from her college days. However, being among women who have put in the effort to play golf for a living is exhilarating.

“It’s going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s like a golfer’s dream. I’m very excited.”

The event begins on Thursday (August 31) at Willow Run Golf Course. It’s the third year for the tournament in Sioux Falls. This year’s top prize is $31,500 with a total purse of $210,000.
