Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games and The Lego Group have officially announced that Lego The Hobbit will be released consoles and handhelds in 2014. Was this journey an unexpected one? Probably not.

A press release points to the game debuting in Spring 2014 on PC, Mac, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, 3DS, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. The game will feature events from 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' and the upcoming 'The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug.' Players will be able to step into the shoes (or hairy feet), of Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf the Grey and Thorin Oakenshield and Company as they head towards Erebor to reclaim their homeland.

One of the character skills hinted at in the press release is the ability to use the portly Bombur as a trampoline in order to "belly-bounce" away from harm. Some locations were also teased, such as Bag End, the High Pass over The Misty Mountains, Goblin-town, Mirkwood and Rivendell.

Tom Stone, Managing Director at TT Games, said, "We are thrilled to depict the characters and environments of Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth in Lego form with the Lego The Hobbit videogame. Our family-friendly take on these thrilling adventures will have kids and parents playing and laughing together as they build and explore in Lego Middle-earth.”
