MINNEAPOLIS -- Kevin Love wanted to, well, show some love.

The Minnesota power forward paid for a full-page advertisement in Sunday's Star Tribune to thank Timberwolves fans for their All-Star votes. Love will start for the Western Conference next weekend after a late push past Dwight Howard landed him one of the starting frontcourt spots.

Love sat out of Saturday night's game against Portland because of a bruised left quadriceps. At halftime, he said the spot in the Minneapolis newspaper was his idea. He said he was "very surprised" he was voted in as a starter so he wanted to show his appreciation in a formal way.

This is Love's third All-Star appearance. He's the first Wolves player to start in the game since Kevin Garnett in 2007.
