CHICAGO, IL -- The United States Hockey League announced Monday that Ed McGovern has been named CCM Defenseman of the Week after recording two points (1g, 1a), four shots and a plus-4 rating in three games last week  for the Sioux Falls Stampede.

On Wednesday, McGovern was a plus-1 in a 3-2 loss at Omaha. After helping the Stampede earn a 3-2 win over the Lancers in a rematch in Sioux Falls on Friday, McGovern posted a goal and an assist in a 6-1 victory over Lincoln on Saturday. He finished the night with two shots and a plus-3 rating. The Assistant Captain also played a large role on the penalty kill unit that successfully killed off 17-of-18 opponent power plays during the week.

The Scottsdale, Ariz. native has 10 points (3g, 7a) and is a plus-14 in 45 games with the Stampede this season. Last year, McGovern recorded 9 points (6g, 3a) in 59 games for Sioux Falls. McGovern was the Stampede’s second round selection in the 2011 USHL Entry Draft.

The Stampede enter this week with a three point lead over Fargo for first place in the Western Conference. The Herd will play three games in three days this weekend when they play in Fargo on Friday and at Omaha on Saturday before returning home Sunday to host Green Bay. Game time Friday is 7:35 PM while Saturday’s game is slated to start at 7:05 PM and Sunday’s home game will begin at 5:05 PM.
