Merriman Released by Bills

According to Sports Illustrated, the Buffalo Bills have released Shawne Merriman, who was coming off a torn Achilles tendon injury he incurred in November.

Merriman's release was regarded as a mild surprise for a player who described himself as being in his best shape in years after having season-ending surgery in November to repair a partially torn right Achilles tendon. It's an injury that had nagged him for much of the previous two seasons.

Merriman posted the following message on his Twitter account following his release.

I want to say Thanks to the Organization, the Coaches, my teammates & the fans you guys have been great & I'll be looking forward to the chapter
