PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The George S. Mickelson Trail in the Black Hills will host three snowshoe hikes this winter.

Hikes will be held at 1 p.m. MST on Saturday and Jan. 19, with both starting at the Englewood trailhead. The final hike will be held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 2, with the location to be determined later.

Staff at the Black Hills Trails Office will teach basic snowshoeing skills while leading a nature walk along the trail.

Mickelson Trail manager Dana Garry says the office has a limited number of snowshoes available for those taking part in the hikes, so people should sign up early to make sure they get a pair of snowshoes.

Garry says snowshoes are available for checkout any time, not just during guided hikes.
