MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Texas A&M forward Davonte Fitzgerald is transferring to Minnesota.

The Golden Gophers announced the move on Tuesday. Fitzgerald is a 6-foot-7 forward who spent two years playing for the Aggies. He averaged 5.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in those two seasons, but saw his role diminish as a sophomore.

Fitzgerald is the seventh member of a recruiting class that includes Illinois State transfer Reggie Lynch and freshmen Kevin Dorsey and Jarvis Johnson.

Coach Richard Pitino says the Atlanta native's experience playing at Texas A&M will be a big boost to a young team.

Under NCAA transfer rules, Fitzgerald will have to sit out next season. He will have two more years of eligibility beginning in 2016-17.
