One week after a huge upset of Top Ten Michigan State, Nebraska Cornhuskers fans were wondering if the Big Red would suffer any sort of letdown as the Huskers headed to New Jersey to face Rutgers in a Big Ten Conference battle.

Early on against the Scarlet Knights, the offense made sure that wouldn't happen, and later when the offense struggled, the Nebraska defense slammed the door shut in a 31-14 win.

I talked with the 'Voice of the Huskers' Greg Sharpe about a rare wire-to-wire victory for the 2015 Cornhuskers.

Nebraska jumped to a 21-0 lead in the first half, thanks in part to something they'd never tried before - a tight end reverse to Cethan Carter. That 32-yard touchdown run capped a 78-yard scoring drive.

Tommy Armstrong followed that up with touchdown passes to Jordan Westerkamp and Alonzo Moore to make it a three score lead a little more than three minutes into the second quarter.

But then mistakes set in, as Armstrong threw a pair of interceptions in the span of three passes, the first setting up a Rutgers touchdown, the second giving the Scarlet Knight a shot at a failed Hail Mary to end the first half.

The second half didn't start any better for Armstrong, who tossed his third pick in nine throws, setting up an other Rutgers score and all of the sudden it was a 21-14 Nebraska lead.

The Blackshirt defense stepped in to make sure it didn't get any closer.

Nebraska recorded a season-high six sacks on the day, part of a season-high 11 tackles for loss. Sioux Falls native Nate Gerry's fourth interception of the season sealed the win with just under a minute left. Rutgers managed just 259 yards of total offense on the day.

Eleven weeks into the season the Cornhuskers finally get a bye this week.

Nebraska (5-6/3-4) will play its regular-season finale when they host #6 Iowa, Friday, November 27, in the Hy-Vee Heroes Game. If the Hawkeyes beat Purdue this week, they will be the first 11-win team to ever visit Memorial Stadium.
