A Hartford, South Dakota girl lost her life Saturday afternoon in a tragic accident at a city park.

The unidentified 14-year old was one of three people running to jump into the back of a moving pickup truck that was backing up in the parking lot of the Hartford City Park. She jumped on the step of the truck, but slipped off and was run over.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck was driven by her 16-year old brother.

Police say alcohol was not a factor and no criminal charges will be filed, though the driver was cited for careless driving and violation of driver license restrictions.

The West Central School District will be making arrangements to have counselors available to students and staff. The name of the victim is expected to be released Monday.
