Pierre Wins First State Football Championship

VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) - Alexander Gray threw for 208 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the first half as Pierre T.F. Riggs defeated Watertown 34-7 Friday in the state 11AA title game.

Neither team scored in the second half as Pierre (10-1) cruised to its first state title.

Gray also ran for 44 yards and a score and kicker Garrett Pochop returned an interception 22 yards for a score.

Austin Christopherson had 111 receiving yards and TD catches of 12 and 49 yards.

Ethan Case scored on a 2-yard run for Pierre.

Gray finished the night 15-for-23 for 251 yards passing.

Shay Bratland had the only score for Watertown (7-4) on a 95-yard kickoff return.
