As the 2014 NBA D-League Showcase is under way, the buzz leading up to the event last week was that Rajon Rondo might begin a rehab stint with the Celtics D-League affiliate the Maine Red Claws.

However as the event approached, the buzz was somewhat slowed.

And according to two different sources at the Showcase, its unlikely we will see Rondo in Reno.

One source told me that he doesn't see him coming to Reno and doesn't see him playing a game in the D-League even though Rondo and Celtics head coach Brad Stevens have talked about being open to the idea.

The other source said the major concern is that Rondo would re-aggravate his injury in a rehab assignment in the D-League and not only would it set his return back, but the PR nightmare is a area of concern.

Furthermore the first source mentioned that Rondo may practice with the D-League team, but game action was unlikely.

Time will tell and to hear that Rondo is open to the idea is certainly interesting and could open the door in the future for more rehab assignments in the NBA D-League.
