SPOKANE, WA -- The South Dakota State volleyball team downed UC Riverside 3-1 on Saturday to complete a perfect weekend at the Gonzaga Tournament.

The Jackrabbits won by the set scores of 25-19, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-19 to improve to 5-2 on the season. UC Riverside falls to 4-3.

"Nice weekend for us. We fought to keep control of matches and did a very good job of maintaining our defensive focus," head coach Phil McDaniel said. "We made some very positive strides this weekend, and I'm proud of our leadership group."

It took another balanced attack from the Jackrabbits to complete the weekend sweep. Kelli Fiegen set the offensive pace with 13 kills and seven block assists. Kaitlin Klingemann finished with nine, Bailey Philippot eight and Margit Hansing seven kills to go with her 11 digs.

Shay Birath led the defense with 13 digs, while Lexi Fowler added 10 digs to go along with her team-high 22 set assists for the double-double.

Three Highlanders posted double-digit kills, led by Amanda Vialpando. Shelby LeDuff finished with 13 kills and added 15 digs for her double-double.

Fiegen named MVP at Gozaga Tournament
SPOKANE, WA -- Kelli Fiegen and Kaitlin Klingemann both earned all-tournament team honors at the Gonzaga Tournament over the weekend after leading South Dakota State to a perfect 3-0 record. Fiegen earned tournament MVP honors.

A senior from Parkston, Fiegen finished the weekend with 45 kills and a .416 hitting percentage. She also led the Jacks with 23 total digs.

Klingemann, a senior from Omaha, Neb., recorded 37 kills, nine digs and nine blocks on the weekend. She also led the team with four service aces.

The Jackrabbits, now 5-2 on the season, return to action on Tuesday, when they open their home schedule against North Daktoa at 7 p.m.
