RAPID CITY, SD -- Sioux Falls Roosevelt took charge in the third quarter and held off Yankton 59-53 at the South Dakota Class AA boys basketball tournament on Thursday.

Yankton saw its chances end with a turnover with 34 seconds left. Instead of possibly tying the game at 53, the Rough Riders (20-3) went to the other end and put the game away from the line.

Chris Phillips was perfect in eight shots at the line and had 20 points. Jason Spicer added 15 points, and Colton Kooima had 11.

Brady Hale had 16 points, JJ Hejna 13 and Ryan Olson 11 for the Bucks (14-10), who were outscored 18-11 in the third quarter.

SIOUX FALLS WASHINGTON 63, PIERRE 50
RAPID CITY, SD -- Sioux Falls Washington's Brett Stanley had 26 points as the Warriors beat Pierre 63-50 in the first round of the South Dakota Class AA boys basketball tournament on Thursday.

The Warriors (14-11) shot 51 percent from the field, while Stanley was 12-for-19. Deng Geu had 12 points and Austin Heins led Washington with nine rebounds.

Pierre (19-5) struggled from the field, shooting just 32 percent. The Governors trailed 33-22 at the break and never made a run after that.

Erin Severyn had four 3-pointers and 16 points for Pierre and Brevin Kaiser added 12 points.

 

SIOUX FALLS LINCOLN 62, HURON 57 (OT)
RAPID CITY, SD -- Kaleb Johnson scored 27 points and Sioux Falls Lincoln rallied in the fourth quarter and overtime to beat top-seeded Huron 62-57 Thursday at the South Dakota Class AA boys basketball tournament.

The Patriots (12-12) outscored Huron 22-11 in the fourth quarter and 13-8 in the extra frame. Tate Lindsay's three-point play with 1:36 left in OT was the winning move as it gave Lincoln a 58-55 lead.

Johnson had five of the Patriots' six 3-pointers. His layup with 5 seconds to play forced overtime.

Addison Park added 12 points.

Justin Decker had 17 and Caleb Carr 11 for the Tigers (21-2).

 

RAPID CITY STEVENS 72, STURGIS 48
RAPID CITY, SD -- Steven Schaefer poured in 26 points to lead Rapid City Stevens to a 72-48 win over Sturgis Thursday at the South Dakota Class AA boys basketball tournament.

Schaefer drained 10 of 17 shots from the field, including four 3-pointers. He also had eight rebounds for the Raiders (20-3). Sam McCloud was 5-for-5 from the floor en route to 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Raiders shot 56 percent and held Sturgis (14-10) to just 41 percent.

Kody Kracht had 16 points to lead the Scoopers. Kellen Barden added 1'5 and Tanner Weaver 11.
