The Summit League is back in Sioux Falls.

On Saturday, no South Dakota teams played on the first day of the conference tournament, but there was plenty of action to satisfy the area's basketball fans.

In the first game, the IUPUI (22-8) women withstood a late rally by the North Dakota State (6-24) women, winning 72 to 64. IUPUI was led by four players in double figures. DeAirra Goss paced the Jaguars with 25 points, while Nevena Markovic, and Dee-Dee Bellamy both contributed 11 points. Shanika Maddox added 10 points.

Leading the charge for the Bison was Bree Whatman and Kahla Becken each with 16 points. Marena Whittle scored 14 points, and Holly Johnson added 13 for NDSU.

Saturday's loss ended the Bison's season, and was also the last game for head coach Carolyn DeHoff, who resigned in February.

IUPUI now awaits the winner of Fort Wayne and Denver.

In the only other game, Fort Wayne (23-9) made a statement by beating IUPUI (6-25) handily, 85 to 47.

The Mastodons of Fort Wayne were led by four scorers in double figures. Luis Jacobo led all scorers with 19 points, while Mo Evans added 13, Steve Forbes scored 11, and Joe Edwards had 10 points.

IUPUI's season is over with the loss to Fort Wayne. Mitch Patton led the Jaguars with 18 points, while Ian Chiles scored 12 points.

Fort Wayne will play the winner of South Dakota State and Western Illinois.

In today's action, three South Dakota teams will take the Arena's center stage. South Dakota (No. 4) begins tournament play at noon against Western Illinois (No. 5). At 2:30, Fort Wayne (No. 3) plays Denver (No. 6) on the women's side of the bracket.

No. 1 seed South Dakota State has a bye into the semifinals, and plays the winner of South Dakota, and Western Illinois.

On the men's side, South Dakota (No. 5) plays Denver (No. 4) at 6 p.m., while the Jacks (No. 3) play Western Illinois (No. 6) at 8:30 p.m.

No. 1 North Dakota State has a bye into the semifinals and plays the winner of South Dakota and Denver.
