Schueller Named MIAC Coach of the Year

Former Sioux Falls Stampede assistant coach and current St. John's University head coach Doug Schueller has been named MIAC Coach of the Year.

Schueller is the first SJU coach to earn MIAC recognition since John Harrington, a four-time honoree, in 2004. Schueller has a 52-63-13 record in five seasons as head coach at SJU, though 26 of the 63 losses were decided by one goal (17-26 record in one-goal games, 4-1 record in 2012-13). The Johnnies went 30-17-7 (.620) in MIAC regular-season games after Christmas under the direction of Schueller, including a 16-5-3 record the past two seasons (.729).

The Johnnies qualified for the Division III national tournament, but fell 4-2 to Eau Claire in the first round. Still, St. John’s earned a share of the regular season MIAC title and won the post-season tournament when they topped Gustavus Adolphus 3-2 in the championship game. Schueller was an assistant coach with the Stampede during their 2005-06 Anderson Cup championship season and was instrumental in helping the Clark Cup championship team the following year before leaving in the late fall to take a similar position at Bowling Green.

Schueller just completed his fifth season as head coach at St. John’s where he has 52 career coaching victories. The Johnnies finished this season with a 16-8-4 mark.
