Gabby Reck is the only senior this season for the Washington Warriors girl's basketball team. For her story, it's more than what happens on the court.

This story isn't about stats, the number of games played, or records. Gabby Reck did most of her work behind the scenes for the Warriors for this season. From mentoring incoming freshman players to being a voice on the bench, Reck helped out the Warriors program in any way that she could.

"Gabby is a person that does all the little things. She works behind the scenes and handles details that sometimes go unnoticed." - Jamie Parish, WHS Head Coach

"I’m just proud of how she accepted her role on the team as the only senior. Playing time did not matter to her. She just wanted the team to be successful." - Tim Reck, WHS Assistant Boy's Basketball Coach & Gabby's Father

Her teammates and coaches displayed their appreciation for her work following the SoDak16 win over Mitchell. For those in attendance, the moment may not have been as obvious. As someone who broadcasted many Washington games this season, this was a moment that stood out and highlighted in just a few seconds how important Reck was to the basketball team.

It wasn't the starters that climbed the ladder first to cut down the net. It wasn't the "star player" that took the state qualifier trophy from the coaches first. The person to do both was Gabby.

"As a basketball player, Gabby has a lesser role on the court yet maintains a huge roll off the court. Gabby has selflessly taken one of our freshman girls under her wing this season and encouraged her day in and day out to get better. Gabby has helped the young lady progress at a much quicker rate, and they have become good friends. A person with lesser character would have seen the young lady as competition and done what they could to benefit themselves. Gabby sees the big picture, truly gets it, and treats people well." - Jamie Parish

Reck also participated in volleyball and track and field for the Warriors throughout her high school career. Away from sports, Reck is a student ambassador and a member of Link Crew for Washington. Her work didn't stop there. Reck is also a youth group leader, Sunday school teacher, a vacation bible school volunteer, and a student mentor for kids at Whittier Middle School.
