There are some prime hunting seasons on the horizon and one important piece of preparation along with securing those licenses is being in shape to enjoy the hunt.

So are you?

If I were to hit the field today it wouldn't be pretty. I didn't even pickup a golf club this season for personal reasons and putting a shotgun in my hands right now would not be the right thing to do.

Along with getting the necessary hunting license, making sure your gun or bow is tuned up, having the right ammunition and clothing, you need to put your health at the top of the list.

Get out and do some walking. Throw on a backpack with some added weight. After a few days swapout your waking shoes for your hunting boots. And don't forget to take the dog with you.

Here's a list of upcoming hunting seasons in South Dakota:

  • Grouse: September 16-January 7, 2018
  • Archery deer: September 23-January 15, 2018
  • Pheasant: October 21-January 1, 2018
  • Fall turkey: November 1-January 31, 2018
  • Rifle deer: November 18-January 7, 2018

And if you can take time to visit the Outdoor Campus here in Sioux Falls.  The conservation officers will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
