SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - The City of Sioux Falls is considering buying land soon to be vacated by an elementary scheduled for consolidation.

KSFY television reports that the Sioux Falls School District is consolidating three core schools and has expressed an interest in selling the property were Longfellow Elementary sits.

City Community Development director Darrin Smith told city council members this week that the school district could transfer the Longfellow property to the city or sell it for as little as $1.

Councilman Kermit Staggers says he's concerned that the city has received free property in the past only to spend millions on it in taxes and other expenses. He wants to make sure the investment is right for the city.
