Sioux Falls ‘Macy’s’ Avoids Store Closing List

This week Sioux Falls was faced with some good news, and some bad news, in regards to major retail stores.

The bad news the city is about to lose its last remaining Kmart location on West 12th Street at the end of March. The good news, we dodged a bullet when it comes to the Macy's Store closings.

The Sioux Falls Argus Leader is reporting the Sioux Falls Macy's Store located in the Empire Mall will remain open.

68 stores are being closed nationwide.

In a statement released by Terry Lundgren, the CEO of Macy's, Lundgren essentially said, they were forced to close a number of unproductive stores located in shopping destinations that are no longer robust. Decisions, like this one, are never easy.

Two Macy's stores close to Sioux Falls are closing later this year, they are located in downtown Minneapolis and in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
