A Sioux Falls teenager apparently picked the wrong car to break into early Monday.

Information Officer Sam Clemens says police were involved in surveillance work near East Mission Street and South Bedford Avenue around 2:00 AM, and one officer was in an unmarked car.

That’s when another car pulled up, and Clemens says the driver opened the driver’s side door of the unmarked police car and found the officer sitting inside.

Clemens says police believe the driver and his teenaged passenger were looking to steal something from the unmarked car, or to steal the car since they had been in a stolen vehicle.

Clemens says a passenger in the suspect's car ran, but both were arrested.

The driver, 19-year-old Guyo Dido Jateny of Sioux Falls, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, criminal entry of a motor vehicle and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The passenger, a 14-year-old Sioux Falls boy, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, criminal entry of a motor vehicle and a curfew violation.
