As the end of the NBA Development League regular season draws ever closer, the Sioux Falls Skyforce can envision a spot in the post season.  Last week’s two-win performance put them on firmer ground.

Tuesday’s road win at Canton and a Saturday home win against Springfield gives Sioux Falls 25 wins which ties them for third best in the circuit.  The Thursday road loss at Tulsa, number 18 on the season, was not overly damaging.  However, Idaho which sits ninth overall has 19 setbacks.  Thus the margin of error is slim for any playoff hopeful.  Even Tulsa and Texas are still in the hunt, but basically have to win the rest of their games to even have a remote chance of making it and they have to play each other one more time.

The Skyforce agenda for the week features one game against Iowa which carries a heavy load for both teams.  Sioux Falls is number 6 in the rankings and the Energy (23-17) is number 7.  Nearly as important as overall win-loss record is the season series which Sioux Falls leads 4 games to 3.  A win would give the Skyforce a tie-breaking advantage if needed to qualify for the post season.  Splitting the season series muddies the water a bit, because the next tiebreaker is performance against above .500 teams.

Further intrigue arrives late this week as Idaho will come to Sioux Falls for a two-game showdown on Friday and Saturday.  Essentially, Idaho will need to win at least one to keep their playoff embers flickering.  Two losses at the Sanford Pentagon would be devastation for the Stampede.  Officially the playoffs don’t start until early April, but all of this week’s games will be close enough to the real thing.  If the Skyforce can end the week with 28 wins, they will be playing postseason basketball.
