CHICAGO, IL -- The United States Hockey League announced Monday that Todd Skirving has been named CCM Forward of the Week and Matt Van Voorhis has been named CCM Co-Defenseman of the Week. It marks the second straight week Skirving has taken home the award and the first time this season for Van Voorhis.

Skirving earns the award after posting four goals in two games last weekend. On Friday, he tallied a powerplay goal and an even strength goal in a 6-4 win over Fargo. On Saturday, he scored again at even strength and then on the powerplay in a 7-4 loss to Chicago.

The Thunder Bay, Ontario native now has eight goals in his last four games and leads the team in goals scored with nine. He is also a +3 during that stretch. He is currently second on the team in scoring with 13 points (9g, 4a) in 12 games. He is in his second season with the club after posting 17 goals last year.

Van Voorhis set up the eventual game-winning goal on Friday in the Herd’s victory over Fargo and then recorded a goal and an assist on Saturday in a loss to Chicago. He assisted on Skirving’s powerplay goal on Saturday and finished the game with a +2 rating.

The Edina, MN native is in his second season with the Stampede and is the club’s top returning defenseman after posting 16 points in 55 games last year. He already has six points (2g, 4a) in 12 games this season and is committed to the University of Denver for the 2013-14 season.
