SHEFFIELD, England (AP) - A soccer fan has been sentenced to jail for four months for assaulting a goalkeeper during an English league game following an all-day drinking binge.

Aaron Cawley told police he was so intoxicated after drinking a mix of beer, cider and vodka that he doesn't remember going onto the field and shoving former England goalkeeper Chris Kirkland in the face during Sheffield Wednesday's match against Leeds on Friday.

Kirkland was knocked to the ground by Cawley and told police it was as if he had been "hit by a ton of bricks."

Cawley is a 21-year-old unemployed laborer who has received two banning orders in the past. He pleaded guilty Monday at Sheffield Magistrates' Court to charges of assault and entering the field.
