Without even taking a snap over the weekend during their bye week, the University of South Dakota football team has moved into uncharted waters.

For the first time in school history, the Coyotes are a top ten team at the FCS level.

USD (3-0) checking in at number-ten in the latest (September 25) FCS Coaches Poll. That's the highest ranking ever for the Coyotes at the Division I level, beating last week's number-13 ranking in the STATS FCS Poll.

The South Dakota program was last in the top ten back in the school's Division II days, reaching number-eight in 2007.

This week, the Coyotes open Missouri Valley Conference play at number-16 Western Illinois, Saturday (September 30).

Five different MVFC teams (North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Youngstown State, Illinois State, South Dakota) are in the top ten this week.

Number-four South Dakota State has the top match-up in all of FCS this week when the Jackrabbits travel to Ohio to battle number-five Youngstown State.
