PIERRE - Gov. Dennis Daugaard and representatives from the Department of Agriculture are traveling to California next week for the World Ag Expo in hopes of expanding the dairy industry in South Dakota.

Daugaard and the Ag Department representatives will be at the World Ag Expo in Tulare, Calif., on Feb. 13-14.

Daugaard says the state's reasonable feed costs, nice tax climate, high demand for milk and support for the agricultural industry make South Dakota an ideal place for the dairy industry to expand.

He says the state's current herd of about 92,000 dairy cows must double to keep up with the capacities of the state's milk processors.
