In 2013, South Dakota has seen a new class of high school football, Class 11AAA.  As we get past the obvious jokes and punch lines for having a 7th class of football in South Dakota, lets look at whose performing at the top.

Not a surprise that the states top teams reside in Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls Lincoln and Sioux Falls Roosevelt appear to be the cream of the crop while Sioux Falls O'Gorman and Sioux Falls Washington appear to be a step or two behind.

With only eight teams totals in 11AAA, once the playoffs come around, it will essentially restart with the seeding and playoff format, but as of now RHS and LHS have executed at a higher level and done so with superior talent.

Taryn Christion of Roosevelt may be the states top player at a skill position and the Rough Rider QB can not only pass the football with ease, but his legs prove to be just as dangerous.  As a Junior, he's come along way as far as being a vocal and on-field leader and its evident with his production.

Caden Quintanilla of Lincoln High School has lived up to the billing this season.  My favorite part of Caden's game is when he nears the sideline, he studder steps the defenders and makes a move to gain additional yardage.  That is a sign of a smart RB and a intelligent football mind.  We'll see if he can continue to lead the #1 team in the state.

How is Lincoln the #1 team in the state?  Thats because on Friday night, the Patriots defeated Roosevelt at Howard Wood Field and did so in a confident manor.  After Roosevelt scored first, Lincoln never looked back and put on a show by showcasing Quintanilla in the running game.  Lincoln is now 3-0 on the season and Roosevelt is 2-1.

Both teams shouldn't be tested other than maybe once before the playoffs begin, and throughout that time, both coaching staffs will have plenty to work on to improve two already solid teams.

Time will only tell which team continues to evolve and progress at the pace is needed to be the team to beat come playoff time, but as mentioned, the anticipation should begin to see this rematch in Vermillion for the state championship.
