EVANSVILLE, IN -- The Augustana Vikings returned to the diamond for the first time in three weeks, dropping a pair of games on a rainy afternoon in Evansville, Ind.

The Vikings lost to the 10th-ranked University of Indianapolis 4-2 in the day's first game.  Augustana opened the scoring, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Jake Petersen led off with a single to right, advancing to second on David Borchardt's ground out.  Tony Viger hit an RBI single down the left field line to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead.

But the Greyhounds answered with three runs in the first two innings to take a 3-1 lead.

Augustana's Brendan Koistinen singled to right with one out and the bases loaded in the top of the sixth to pull the Vikings within a run at 3-2.  Nate Hewes and Jason Rasmussen struck out to end the threat.

Indianapolis added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 4-2.  The Vikings went down in order in the top of the ninth to end the game.

Augustana got 10 hits off the the Greyhounds' Phil Wheeler, but stranded seven.

Wheeler earned the complete game victory with 10 strikeouts.  Kye Winter (0-1) took the loss for the Vikings, giving up three runs on six hits in six innings of work.

Augustana fell to Southern Indiana 2-1 in the nightcap.

The Screaming Eagles (8-1) plated single runs in the first and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead.

The Vikings' only run came in the eighth inning.  Zach Dibble and Jake Petersen reached on back-to-back singles before David Borchardt's bunt single loaded the bases with nobody out.  Tony Viger's sacrifice fly to right scored Dibble making the score 2-1.

Augustana loaded the bases once again with two out in the ninth, but Petersen struck out to end the game.

The Vikings had nine hits but left nine runners on base.  Petersen went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the Augustana offense.  Nate Hewes was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a walk.

Matt Bowles picked up the win for Southern Indiana, allowing one run on five hits, striking out five and walking one over seven innings.  The Vikings' Ben Heairet (1-3) took the loss.  Heairet worked eight innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts.

Augustana (8-7) takes on the University of Indianapolis Monday in a doubleheader scheduled for a 12:00pm start in Evansville.
