MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins have placed closer Glen Perkins on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder injury.

The move was made Wednesday before the Twins hosted Chicago, retroactive to Monday. Left-hander Taylor Rogers was recalled from Triple-A Rochester to join the bullpen during the absence of Perkins, who blew his only save opportunity this season by allowing two runs in the ninth inning Sunday at Kansas City.

The three-time All-Star struggled after the break last year with back and neck problems. The Twins announced the left-hander's injury was a strain of the back side of the shoulder. Kevin Jepsen is the expected replacement for Perkins in the ninth-inning role.

Rogers was an 11th-round draft pick out of Kentucky in 2012. He has yet to appear in the majors.
