We made it to Week 5 of the high school football season before our first cancellations in Class 11AAA.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the scheduled game between Watertown and Brandon Valley would be canceled due to COVID-19 concerns at Watertown. Brian Haenchen of the Argus Leader reports that Watertown could exceed 200 close contacts with its current COVID-19 cases.

Watertown and Brandon Valley isn't the only game that will not take place this week. Aberdeen Central has announced that its scheduled trip to Sioux Falls to play Lincoln has been canceled. Lincoln's activities director Joey Struwe took to Twitter to address the game being called off.

Jenna Ortiz from Aberdeen Sports confirmed from Aberdeen's side that the game has been canceled.

As of now, all four schools will move forward with an eight-game schedule instead of the standard nine for Class 11AAA. It is still possible that schedules could potentially be modified.

Class 11AAA will move forward in Week 5 with the following games:

  • Friday, September 25: Rapid City Stevens @ Washington, 5:00
  • Friday, September 25: Roosevelt @ Harrisburg, 7:00
  • Friday, September 25: O'Gorman @ Rapid City Central, 7:00 (Central)
