Two pedestrians died Monday night and the driver of the vehicle that hit them was seriously injured in a crash at the junction of U.S. Highway 18 and State Highway 46 near Pickstown, in south-central South Dakota.

The State Department of Public Safety says 28-year-old Ronald Ray Fischer, Jr., of Lake Andes was driving a mini-van on Highway 18.

The vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 46 and traveled into a private parking lot, where it struck two pedestrians and two parked vehicles around 8:45pm.

The crash killed 46-year-old Robert Allan Klumb of Pierre and 25-year-old Maegen E. Spindler of Cazenovia, New York.

Fischer was taken to a Wagner hospital and then transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital.
The Highway Patrol is still investigating.
