OMAHA, Neb. – Augustana is ranked 20th in the preseason edition of the Basford Division II National Rankings released Wednesday by D2wrestle.com.

The Basford ranking was officially adopted by the NCAA Division II Coaches Association in the spring of 2012 and is based on the NCAA Division II National Tournament points projections.

The Vikings are one of five Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams listed in the top 25. St. Cloud State is No. 5, Upper Iowa No. 8, Minnesota State No. 9, and Northern State No. 25.

Two Vikings are ranked nationally in their respective weight classes. Senior Nate Herda is No. 4 at 149 pounds. He was 23-8 a year ago, was the Super Region 3 champion, and was a first team selection to the All-NSIC team.

Sophomore Jayd Docken is No. 6 at 197 pounds. A year ago he was 20-8 at 184 pounds.

The University of Central Oklahoma was awarded the first number one ranking having six individuals ranked in the top eight nationally.

Augustana posted a 13-3 record for 2011-12, finished third in the NSIC (5-2), and tied for 10th at the Division II national tournament. The Vikings qualified seven wrestlers for nationals and three earned All-America distinction.
