Briante Weber Looks to Los Angeles Lakers for Next Opportunity
Always looking for a new beginning, Briante Weber will have to prove himself in a crowded backcourt after being accepted to training camp with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Since being signed by the Miami Heat at the end of the 2016 regular season, the former Skyforce guard has been fighting to keep his toes in the NBA pool. First Weber was the last training camp cut in South Beach before returning to Sioux Falls.
A handful of triple-doubles later Weber signed two 10-day contracts with Golden State before landing with Charlotte to complete the 2017 campaign. Weber was then released from the Hornets before his contract could become fully guaranteed for the entire 2017-18 season.
Shams Charania of The Vertical first proclaimed an alliance with the Lakers on Tuesday. As training camp approaches, Weber joins a point guard stash that consists of first round choice Lonzo Ball, Jordan Clarkson who enters his fourth year with the Purple and Gold and Tyler Ennis who was traded from Houston in late February 2017.
Before being called up by Golden State, Weber was putting together a stellar season with the Skyforce. In 31 games, the Virginia Commonwealth product averaged 16.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 2.7 steals and was one steal shy of the first quadruple-double in NBA G League history.
