BURNSVILLE, MN -- Sioux Falls' senior kicker/punter Braden Wieking was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Special Teams Player of the Week following his record-setting performance in USF's 44-21 win over Southwest Minnesota State.

Wieking is the first NSIC player to receive POW honors a second time this season.

Wieking was 2-for-2 on field goal attempts hitting a 19 yarder and then setting a school record with a 54 yard boot against SMSU Saturday. He is now tied with TC Fraser (44) for first in the USF record books for career field goals made. He is 44-for-63 (.698) in his Cougar career.

The four-year starter also handled punting duties Saturday night, averaging 42 yards per punt on three kicks. Wieking had a long of 46, and pinned the Mustangs inside their own 20-yard line once. He also netted 501 yards on eight kickoffs (62.6 yard average) with one touchback.

Through five games, Wieking ranks second in field goals made (8) and scoring (43 pts.) for kickers in the NSIC. He also sits seventh in the nation averaging 1.60 field goals per game.

Wieking will look to become USF's career-leader in field goals made Saturday, October 6 when the Cougars (5-0) travel to Winona, Minn. for a NSIC South matchup with Winona State University (4-1). Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
