The Miami Heat assigned rookie center-forward Jarvis Varnado Friday the Skyforce, the Heat’s NBA Development League affiliate. The center/forward from Mississippi State returns to the Skyforce having earned a GATORADE Call-Up from the team to the Heat in January.
Apparently Jarvis Varnado has shown enough to fulfill every NBA Development League player’s dream. The Miami Heat announced Wednesday that they have signed Varnado for the remainder of the season.
After a string of games that led to three straight home wins, Demetris Nichols of the Sioux Falls Skyforce was today named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played Jan. 14-20.
It’s back to South Beach for a cool customer. Dexter Pittman has been recalled back to the Miami Heat after an assignment with the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
The NBA Development League Showcase has not been very kind to the Sioux Falls Skyforce in recent years. 2013 was a continuation of that trend with the second of Showcase two losses 101-73 to the Springfield Armor on Wednesday.
The bare bones assessment is this: the Sioux Falls Skyforce got two games out of an NBA player and two wins while he was in the lineup. Donald Sloan was parlayed to Sioux Falls in the NBA Development League as part of a three-team agreement.
With the two departures and three arrivals, this shows that the Skyforce organization is going to make bold moves in order to improve. When you come to Sioux Falls, players will adhere to the precepts of what the organization wants to do.
Coming into the 2012-2013 season, the Sioux Falls Skyforce had sent 42 players to the NBA. Make it 43 players as Jarvis Varnado will sign with the Boston Celtics.
